About
This is a poster designed to reflect the spirit of the 2006 Winter Olympics, which was hosted in Turin, Italy. The demo is not it's actual size, the actual size is much larger and was designed to be printed on poster paper.
The reason why I used a blue color scheme in my design was to give the poster a winter feeling. The blue simulates the coldness and freezing temperatures that people have to endure during winter. We often recognize blue as a cold color and therefore would be a good color scheme to use in a poster promoting the winter Olympics.
The giant snowflakes in the design also add to the winter feeling of the poster because snow and snowflakes are often associated with winter. The maple leaf shape in the main snowflake is to get the viewers attention in order to make them examine is closer, this should be a hint that the goal of this poster was to promote the Canadian effort in the winter Olympics. This maple leaf symbol is introduced twice in the design to reinforce the idea and goal.
I used to font Trebuchet MS for the text because I wanted a simple and clean font that could be read easily if seen from far away. I didn’t want anything too fancy or formal but something simple. The white text color was used because it contrasted well against the dark/navy blue background, therefore making it easy to read. It also fit to the winter color scheme because white was a very cool color and often is seen as the color of fresh snow.
