About
This is a poster designed to give this imaginary restaurant a identity and unique look. The demo is not actual size, in reality is is the size of two 8.5 x 11 standard pieces of paper. Please note that there is supposed to be a fold in the middle of this sheet and this is just page one of the design, page two just lists more food items and the back of the menu.
The reason why I used the red and yellow color scheme was because those colors felt rich and classy. The color yellow is often associated with gold and riches; it also vibrantly stands out against the royal, warm and dark red background. Also this color scheme also felt oriental which is often associated with oriental restaurants such as Chinese or Japanese restaurants.
By sticking to these two colors, this gave the design a simple but easy to read design. By having fewer colors in the design, this makes it less confusing and easier for the read to pick out useful information instead of being distracted by multiple colors.
I did not want to use a fancy font in the menu because of readability reasons. Instead I chose a clean and simple font to emphasis the name of the restaurant ``Simply Sushi``.
The chopsticks are used multiple times in the design to establish the ideal tool to consume your sushi. It was also used to draw the viewer’s attention to that certain areas of the menu; this creates an interesting object for the viewer.
I used the yellow heading bands in the design to separate each category of items, the two red circles in surrounding the header in the band was used because it represents the red sun which can be seen in the Japanese flag.
